Russia proposed a second round of direct talks with Ukraine on Monday in the Turkish capital Istanbul.

Russia proposed a second round of direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on Monday. The Russian side wants to present its “memorandum” to end the Ukraine conflict, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrow on Wednesday.

“Our delegation under the direction of (Vladimir) Medinski is ready to provide this memorandum of the Ukrainian delegation and to submit the necessary explanations (…).” Lavrov thanked the “Turkish partners” and emphasized that he hoped that “everyone who is sincerely interested in the success of the peace process” supported the second round of negotiations.

Russia proposes talks in Instantbul

Delegations from Russia and Ukraine had had direct discussions for the first time in more than three years on May 16.

The meeting in the Turkish metropolis of Istanbul ended without approaching in the question of a ceasefire. However, a large prisoner exchange was agreed, which has now been completed.
