The new government has only been in office for a few weeks – but according to the Bundestag president, their places in parliament are already empty. Now Klöckner has written a letter.
Bundestag President Julia Klöckner criticizes the lack of ministers in parliament in her eyes too frequently and demands improvement from the federal government. “In the first few weeks of this new legislative period, I find out that the government bench in the plenum is sometimes very weak,” writes Klöckner in a letter to Chancellor Minister Michael Meister (CDU), from which the news magazine “Politico” quotes and which is also available to the German press agency.
“A reasonable and continuous presence of the Federal Government” is of essential importance for a lively discourse and for a constructive cooperation between executive and legislative “, the letter says.
Klöckner’s wish: at least two ministers present
Klöckner suggests a minimum number of cabinet members present in the plenum. Both the factions and the Presidium of the Bundestag are “irrefutable (…) that at least two Federal Minister should be present during each plenary session,” writes the parliamentary president.
“I therefore have to ask to take appropriate measures to ensure permanent and effective representation of the Federal Government in the meetings of the Bundestag,” concludes Klöckner.
