Friedrich Merz has phoned Israel’s head of government Benjamin Netanyahu. The conversation was about German solidarity with Israel, but also about expectations.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) pushed more aid deliveries for the Gaza Strip on a phone call to Israel’s head of government Benjamin Netanyahu. During the conversation, Merz emphasized that the security and right of existence of Israel were part of German state rats, said government spokesman Stefan Kornelius in Berlin.
At the same time, the Chancellor emphasized that “it is urgently needed to have sufficient humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip and to ensure their secure distribution to the civilian population”.
Friedrich Merz hopes for “soon agreement”
According to the information, Merz sentenced “the terror of Hamas”. The radical Islamic Palestinian organization had to release all hostages and lay down the weapons. At the same time, the Chancellor expressed the hope of “an early agreement on the release of the hostages and an armistice”.
In addition, he had confirmed that “the Federal Government continues to consider a negotiated two-state solution as the best chance to enable Israelis and Palestinians to live peaceful coexistence,” said Kornelius.
In the Gaza Strip there is a risk of famine
In view of the devastating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, Israel is increasingly exposed to massive international criticism. According to the UN, the entire population of the Palestinian area is threatened by a famine.
After a temporary, more than two -month blockade of the auxiliary deliveries by Israel, humanitarian aid only slowly comes back into the area. When distributing the relief supplies, there are always incidents that dozens of people were killed, according to the Hamas authorities.
