The expectations of the Ukraine negotiations were low. Now the talks end after a very short time. What was discussed and – what’s next?
The second round of negotiations between Russians and Ukrainians about a possible ceasefire has ended. The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj announced that the talks were completed and that Defense Minister Rustem Umjerow, who cited the Kiev delegation, expected a full report. Documents have been exchanged and prepared for a new exchange of prisoners of war, Selenskyj said in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius during a visit.
Moscow provided Ukraine conditions for ceasefire
The conversation in Istanbul took about an hour, reported the state news agency TASS and the interfax agency, citing their own sources. A sequel in the further course of the day is not planned. Russia wanted to hand over a memorandum about a possible termination of the war.
The conversations should go against paths from Russia against Ukraine, which has been going on for three years. Kyiv had asked for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire as a first step in advance. Moscow, however, had linked a break of fire on conditions, which included a waiver of western states on arms deliveries to Ukraine. Kyiv, on the other hand, should set the mobilization of soldiers.
