From Berlin to New York: Annalena Baerbock was elected by a large majority as the new president of the UN General Assembly. Now details about their wages became known.
Ex-Secretary of State Annalena Baerbock (44, Greens) receives a payment for her work as President of the UN General Assembly in New York in accordance with the grade B9. From the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, it was said that it was the usual practice that the country of origin was for remuneration. A service contract with Baerbock was therefore concluded with the approval of the cabinet. The grade B9 corresponds to a taxable basic salary of a good 13,000 euros a month without surcharges.
For the contract with Baerbock, for example in the event of salary or apartment, the regulations for employees of the Federal Foreign Office apply abroad. Baerbock’s remuneration corresponded to that of a head of a large foreign representative, it said from the Foreign Ministry.
Not everyone voted for Annalena Baerbock
Baerbock was elected by an overwhelming majority as the next President of the UN General Assembly. In the event of a secret coordination of the United Nations’ largest body forced by Russia, it received 167 votes – 14 member states abstained. In contrast, seven other countries in New York spoke out for the original German candidate Helga Schmid, who was not available.
The candidacy of the Greens politician had also met in Germany because the top German top diplomatin Schmid had to make room for her at the last minute.
The top position of Baerbock is primarily attached to protocol importance-it should not be confused with the role of UN General Secretary António Guterres. The inauguration is on September 9, shortly before the general debate of the UN General Assembly with state guests from all over the world.
