The controversial auxiliary centers have recently started. And are now closed for one day because of “renovation work”. Meanwhile, Israel’s Foreign Minister is expected in Berlin.
The Israeli army urgently warns the population in the Gaza Strip of attending the controversial distribution centers for relief supplies today due to “renovation work”. The streets there would be considered “fighting areas”, a army spokesman said on the X platform. After repeated reports on fatal attacks of Israeli soldiers on Palestinians seeking help at the centers in the past few days, Gaza Humanitrian Foundation (GHF), responsible for the distribution of relief goods, wants to improve security there.
The centers would remain closed for “renovation, organizational and efficiency improvement work”. For this purpose, logistical preparations would be made to be set to larger crowds. In addition, the Israeli army wanted to use the time to prepare safe access routes, the “Times of Israel” reported. On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the Israeli military shot on Palestinians who would have approached the troops. They deviated from a path approved in advance.
An Israeli army spokesman warned the residents of Gaza to go into areas today that lead to the distribution centers. “It is strictly forbidden to enter the areas of the distribution centers!” The centers are to be reopened on Thursday.
According to the health authority controlled by the Hamas on Tuesday, Israeli soldiers near a distribution center near Rafah killed at least 27 Palestinians and injured around 90 more. The Israeli army said that soldiers had seen around half a kilometer from the distribution center “suspects” who had portrayed a “threat”. However, since these had not returned despite warning shots, the soldiers had shot on individual “suspects”.
Guterres calls for an investigation
The GHF had started the distribution of the relief supplies over the centers a week ago in the south of the sealed coastal strip. So far, she claims to have distributed more than six million meals. In the area of these centers, Palestinian reports are said to have been similar to similar fatal incidents in which dozens of Palestinians are said to have been killed.
According to the new reports on Palestinians killed by the auxiliary centers, UN Secretary General António Guterres confirmed his demand for consequences. “The Secretary General continues to call for an immediate, independent examination of these events and the accountability of the perpetrators,” said UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric in New York. “It is unacceptable that civilians try to procure food, risk their lives and even lose in several cases.”
Israel enables the GHF to distribute relief goods in the Gaza Strip in order to avoid aid organizations of the UN and other initiatives, which they deny the distribution of relief goods. The UN criticized this and accused Israel of using humanitarian aid as a weapon. Israeli opposition politicians also accuse the government of using food distribution in order to advance the expulsion of the Palestinian population from Gaza.
Since March, Israel’s government had blocked all aid deliveries into the sealed coastal area. According to her, the pressure on Hamas should be increased so that the last hostages kidnapped during the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7, 2023. Israel has only loosened the blockade a little for around two weeks. The war was triggered by the attack by Hamas and other Palestinian groups to Israel on October 7, 2023, in which around 1200 soldiers and civilians were killed and more than 250 were dragged into the Gaza strips as hostages. International law prohibits the starvation of the civilian population. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been sought by the International Criminal Court by arrest with an arrest warrant because of this allegation since November last year.
The Israeli government justifies the controversial realignment of humanitarian aid in Gaza with the fact that the deliveries had previously been stolen by Hamas. According to the UN organizations, however, there are no evidence of the systematic robbery of humanitarian aid by Hamas.
The US government, however, defended the help previously achieved by the GHF-and at the same time held on to her at its distance. It was an independent organization that does not receive any money from the US government, said the spokeswoman for the US State Department, Tammy Bruce, on request in Washington.
Israeli Foreign Minister visits Berlin
Today the Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar is expected in Berlin. Talks with his colleague Johann WadePhul (CDU) are planned on Thursday, according to the Foreign Office. According to a message from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saar also visits the Holocaust memorial in Berlin.
Germany is considered a close ally of Israel. However, Israeli media speak of a “changed pitch” that they want to have heard of the statements of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and other public representatives of Germany. Merz had sharply criticized the Israeli government last week, but apart from the threat with concrete consequences.
Rakets from Syria hit at occupied Golan heights
Meanwhile, fired missiles fired from Syria for the first time in more than a year in Israeli -controlled areas. The two floors have declined on the Golan heights, which was occupied by Israel, over open terrain, the Israeli army said. There were initially no reports on injured people. According to their own statements, the Israeli armed forces reacted to the shooting point with artillery fire and bombed a arms camp in southern Syria.
It was the first rocket attack from Syria since May 2024, which hit Israel or Israeli -controlled area, the newspaper “Times of Israel” wrote. At the same time, it was the first attack of this kind from Syria since the fall of the Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad in December.
The new Syrian leadership under temporary president Ahmed al-Sharaa does not have large parts of the country under its control. Until a year ago, Proiran militias from Syria had shot at Israel to support Hamas in the Gaza Strip in their war against Israel. At the time, these militias acted with the approval of the Assad leadership.
Rocket fire from Yemen too
Almost at the same time on Tuesday evening, according to Israeli military information, a rocket from Yemen entered Israeli airspace. The Israeli air defense caught the floor fired by the Huthi militia in Yemen, as the army announced. There were initially no reports on damage or injuries. Since the beginning of the Gaza War in October 2023, the Proiran Huthi-Miliz Israel regularly attacks rockets and drones to increase the pressure on the Israeli government to set the attacks on the Gaza Strip.
