Exactly seven months ago to the day, the water that led to the most severe natural disaster in Germany, characterized by flooding and heavy rain, came. We take a look at the Ahr Valley: How are people doing today, how is the reconstruction going and what happened to the many donations?
More than 150 liters of rain per square meter fell on the night of July 14th, 2021. More than 180 people died as a result of the flood disaster – 134 of them in the Ahr Valley. Tens of thousands have lost their homes, the damage is in the billions and at the same time those affected have experienced great solidarity in the middle of the corona pandemic – hundreds of volunteers have helped strangers without hesitation.
In a special episode of “Today Important” we look back on the disaster night in the Ahr Valley, hear the voices of helpers, politicians and those affected – and ask the question: Would this disaster have been foreseeable? In addition, RTL meteorologist Christian Häckls explains whether we will now have such extreme weather conditions more often as a result of climate change?
The love in the world
Valentine’s Day is over, but in the weekly series of “important today” we remain romantic and look at the different love customs in the world. Today we look to India.
