Russia is looking for an answer to the blow against his bomber fleet. Now a high-tech flight defense system delivered by Berlin has been destroyed in Ukraine. The confirmation is pending.
According to its own statements, the Russian military has destroyed a Type Iris-T type aircraft system delivered from Germany to Ukraine. The facility in the Dnipropetrovsk area was hit by an Iskander rocket, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow wrote on its telegram channel. It also provided a video clip for about half a minute, which should show the impact. “As a result of the blow, the strike was destroyed: the radar station, the rocket launcher, the control center and two accompanying vehicles,” it says. The authenticity of the recordings cannot be checked independently.
Iris-T is a modern aircraft complex with a short range. Germany has handed over six such batteries to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion. It serves Ukraine primarily to protect large cities in the hinterland. So a loss would be serious.
Kyiv did not comment on the process at the request of the dpa. However, both sides also use dummies of weapon systems to deceive the opponent.
