Surprisingly, there is again a conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The two heads of state discuss the Ukrainian attacks – and Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump sees no chance of an immediate solution in the Ukraine War after a new phone call with Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin. “It was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to an immediate peace,” Trump wrote after the phone call on the Truth Social.
The conversation took about an hour and 15 minutes, Trump reported. It was about Ukraine’s latest attacks on military aircraft in the Russian hinterland and other attacks on both sides. Putin “said very clearly” that he had to react to the attacks of Ukraine.
The surprise attack Kiews
After months of preparation, the Ukrainian secret service had recently led a comprehensive blow against several Russian military airfields, from which fighter planes regularly started attacks against Ukraine. Overall, over 40 machines with a total value of $ seven billion were destroyed in the attacks, including even one at Irkutsk in Siberia, the Ukrainian secret service SBU said. Russia has lost 34 percent of its strategic bomber fleet, which can stop leaking missiles. The information is not independent.
The Russian military confirmed the “terrorist attacks”, spoke of “some” damaged aircraft at Murmansk and Irkutsk. The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj celebrated the surprise attack by his secret service as a “absolutely brilliant success” and evaluated this most far -reaching operation in Ukraine in the course of the war.
Last conversation in mid -May
Representatives of Ukraine and Russia had recently taken direct discussions about a possible solution to the conflict in Turkey. So far, Trump’s repeated demand for an immediate end of the fights has not yet been reversed.
Trump and Putin had only spoken together in mid -May. The US President has stimulated a direct meeting between Putin and Selenskyj several times and offered to get along. So far, however, this has not occurred.
Possible new US sanctions against Russia are currently in space-a corresponding legislative package have developed a republican and a democratic senator together. In addition to other measures, the draft law provides drastic punitive tariffs against states that continue to import Russian oil, gas or other energy products.
A large majority in the Senate stand behind the project, but it is unclear when it will be coordinated in the congress chamber. According to media reports, the Republicans are still waiting for a snod from the White House. Most recently, Trump had shown herself reluctantly with a view to new sanctions against Russia, but also increased the pressure on Moscow. After a vote in the Senate, the new sanctions in the House of Representatives would have to find a majority before Trump could sign it.
Trump and Putin also talk about Iran
Trump claims to speak to Putin about Iran and its controversial nuclear program. “I said President Putin that Iran must not have any nuclear weapons, and I think we agreed on this point,” he wrote. The time for an Iranian decision on nuclear weapons is scarce, a decision must be made quickly, Trump explained. According to Trump, Putin indicated that he wanted to participate in the talks about the Iranian nuclear program and could possibly help to bring the matter to a quick conclusion.
