Due to impending criminal proceedings, the Bundestag lifted the immunity of MPs Gökay Akbulut and Ingo Hahn. The allegations against them differ.
The Bundestag has lifted the immunity of two MPs. In the evening, the parliament unanimously granted the “approval to carry out a criminal proceedings” against Gökay Akbulut from the left and the AfD parliamentarian Ingo Hahn.
Akbulut is investigated on suspicion of attempted dangerous bodily harm because it is said to have thrown a bottle in a train from Heidelberg to Stuttgart in the direction of a passenger. The MP had reported on her Instagram channel that she was thrown at a man with a beer bottle and was racially insulted and sexually harassed.
Bundestag also raises immunity from Ingo Hahn
Hahn’s immunity had already been lifted last year when he was still sitting in the Bavarian state parliament. He is said to have released and published a video in social media, in which the speech by a free voter MP was illegally torn out of context and cut together with other recordings.
