On his inaugural visit to Washington, the Chancellor attached great importance to a good atmosphere with the US President. Will there be a return visit soon?
According to Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), US President Donald Trump accepted an invitation to a visit to Germany. “The teams will search for an appointment,” said Merz after a conversation with Trump in the White House in Washington in an ARD “focal point”.
Merz said about the conversation with Trump at a lunch: “We talked about a lot of topics, and he was very interested in Germany, his homeland. That already moved him.” The Chancellor added: “I invited him to come to Germany, to make a visit to Germany. He accepted the invitation.” It was “a really good atmosphere” in the conversation.
Guest gift for Trump’s German family roots
Merz had brought Trump a copy of the historical birth certificate from his grandfather Friedrich as a gift. This was born in Kallstadt in the Palatinate in 1869, later emigrated to the United States and called himself Frederick. The Chancellor handed Trump the document in a golden framework at the beginning of the meeting in the Oval Office.
