Success for the government: US court allows savings committee Doge access to civic data

In the dispute over the access of the Savarium Doge to sensitive data from millions of citizens, the US government has prevailed before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court allowed employees of the cost-reduction committee that was launched by Tech-billionaire Elon Musk with an enforcement decision. A lower instance had prohibited this with an injunction.

The legal dispute should be continued in the matter – even if employees of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) can already access the data in the meantime. The Supreme Courts’ decision was made with the majority of the six conservative judges. The three more liberal judges voted against it.

Two of them, Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor, criticized in a different opinion that Doge employees would immediately have access to “highly sensitive data”, although the legal dispute is still on the matter. This endangers the privacy of millions of Americans.

Data also includes addresses and account numbers

The data of the authority includes the particularly important social security number, birth dates, account numbers, addresses and, in some cases, information on pension payments or even particularly sensitive health data.

In the lower instance, judge Ellen Lipton Hollander had issued an injunction against data access and criticized that Doge received unrestricted access to personal and private information from millions of Americans under flimsy preliminary preliminary preliminary preliminary preliminary. Government prevails in a further Doge legal dispute
