Jens Spahn’s role in mask procurement in corona pandemic has long been criticized. An internal report is now to prove what was made.
According to the NDR, WDR and “Süddeutscher Zeitung”, an internal report is burdened by Union faction leader Jens Spahn (CDU) for allegations for mask procurement during corona pandemic. The 170 -page report of the special representative Margaretha Sudhoff used by the former Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) is therefore in excerpts for the three media. Spahn had been Minister of Health in the Pandemie period until the end of 2021.
The allegations are particularly directed against the fact that Spahn had placed the logistics company Fiege from his Münsterland homeland without tender for mask procurement in volume of 1.5 billion euros. This was done, even though the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which was actually responsible for logistics issues, warned about the commissioning of the Fiege company at the time, it said in the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. In contrast, there were also opposition in the government of the Corona crisis staff, which Spahn had overlaped.
Media report: Jens Spahn’s procurement measures have caused billions in damage
Due to the procurement project that ultimately did not work, the federal government probably caused a billion dollar damage, it said in the “SZ”. The same heights also had the star already reported in July 2024.
Many of the masks were later destroyed. The allegations are also about the procurement of protective clothing and disinfectant.
On “Tagesschau.de” it was also said, citing the internal report that Spahn only informed the Interior Ministry about the project afterwards. He also disregarded ongoing preparations in the crisis team for an order to the logistics groups DHL and Schenker. According to “Tagesschau.de”, the report was completed by Sudhoff in April 2025, but was not published. Rather, the current Minister of Health Nina Warken (CDU) refuses to submit the report to the Bundestag.
The Green Health politician Paula Piechotta criticized this. “Ms. Warken would like to keep the report on mask processing under lock and key to protect Jens Spahn from the end of his political career,” she said “Tagesschau.de”. In the “SZ” Piechotta accused the Union faction leader as ministers specifically preferred CDU-related companies from his home region. Spahn, on the other hand, repeatedly justified his actions at the time.
