Protest: Trump threatens California with power of the US government

In view of massive protests against the security forces of the US immigration authority ICE in the Los Angeles area, President Donald Trump threatened to intervene with the Federal Government. If Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass did not make her jobs properly, the federal government will intervene and solve the problem with “unrest and looting”, the Republican wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Instead of using the correct surname of the democratic governor, Trump described him in his post as “Newscum” – a word game with the English term “scum”, which means “scum” in German.
Immediately before, Newsom had warned on the X platform that Trump’s government was planning to deprive the state to deprive the national guards to use 2,000 soldiers because of the protests. The authorities in the district and the city of Los Angeles see no need for this, he emphasized. With this step, the government deliberately heats up the situation, which will only lead to further escalation.
In the United States, states normally have control over the national guard. A decision by the President to take the command over the national guard of a state would be a massive escalation – and has so far rarely occurred in US history.
