Hundreds of people demonstrate against US migration policy. President Donald Trump reacts to the mobilization of thousands of soldiers – now his vice JD Vance also speaks.
President Donald Trump’s protests against the controversial immigration policy of President Donald Trump expand. After the demonstrations in Los Angeles with hundreds of participants, people also took to the streets in San Francisco. According to the police there, “thousands of people” protested mostly peacefully on Monday (local time). Only in the evening there were smaller incidents.
According to media reports, dozens of people gathered in the lobby of the Trump Tower in the east coast metropolis of New York. As the broadcaster CBS News reported, they chanted “brings them back”, apparently alluding to deportations of migrants. According to reports from US media, there were also protests in Santa Ana, Austin and Dallas (state of Texas), Atlanta (Georgia) and Louisville (Kentucky). These were largely peaceful, but there were individual clashes and dozens of arrests.
Highly unusual and controversial step
People in Los Angeles have been demonstrating hard migration course for days. On Monday, according to the US media, the police were again partly with tear gas and rubber floors against the protesters. Despite some incidents, there seemed to have been fewer clashes between the police and demonstrators in the rallies, as the “New York Times” wrote. The protests were largely calmer than in the days before, the “Los Angeles Times” also reported.
Increased operations by the ICE immigration authority had triggered the first protests at the end of last week. According to the authorities, dozens of people were arrested by the raids. Critics accuse Trump’s government to specifically stir up fear with martial measures.
US Minister of Homeland, Kristi Noem, emphasized the FOX News on the other hand, with the support of the National Guard, the ICE employees implemented exactly what Trump promised. The Republican had promised in the election campaign to start the largest deportation program in American history.
US Vice President Vance: “Trump will not give in”
President Trump does not want to tolerate the protests: At the Ministry of Department of the Republican, the US Department of Defense had mobilized 2,000 additional soldiers from the National Guard for use in the western coast metropolis and 700 marine fans of the regular armed forces. Trump had already had 2,000 national guards mobilized in a highly unusual and controversial step at the weekend. According to the latest military information, there are currently around 1,700 national guards in the Los Angeles area.
For the first time in decades, a US president took control of the national guard of a state without the consent of the governor there. The conflict could continue to escalate: US Vice President JD Vance announced a hard passage in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. The FBI will help the FBI to help violent criminals, restore order and the Immigration Authority ICE are at the side of enforcing immigration laws, the Republican wrote on the platform X. “President Trump will not give in,” it said, and the government will not be intimidated by the “lawlessness”.
California’s governor sees “abuse of power”
The democratic governor of California, Gavin Newsom, accused Trump “abuse of power” and spoke of “disturbed” fantasies of a “dictatorial president”. The US government exceeds a red line. California has already filed a lawsuit against Trump’s decision to take control of the national guard of the state without the consent of the state. Newsom announced that he will also go to California against the posting of regular soldiers.
Newsom criticized in another post on X, the first 2,000 national guards had not received any food or water. “Only about 300 are in use – the rest sits unused in federal buildings without having any commands.”
Mayor: LA No test case for Trump’s migration course
The mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, sees Trump’s procedure a kind of “test case”. Washington wants to see “what happens when the federal government intervenes and takes away the decision -making power to the state or the city,” she said at a press conference on Monday (local time). Bass added: “I don’t think our city should serve as an experiment.” Bass sees this a “provocative measure”. In advance, she tried to make it clear to the White House that the mobilization of the National Guard “would be a deliberate attempt to create restlessness and chaos in our city,” she continued.
