The Ukrainian President Selenskyj thanks the EU for the planned tightening of the sanctions. However, the measures are not sufficient.
The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj calls on the western industrialized countries to halve their upper price limit for Russian oil. This is currently $ 60 per barrel. “Each of our partners knows which price cover is necessary – $ 30 (Pro Barrel),” said Selenskyj in his evening video message.
Selenskyj referred to the EU Commission’s proposal to reduce the price limit to $ 45. He thanked the EU Commission for focusing on the energy and banking sector in the planned additional sanctions against Russia.
According to Selenskyj’s Russia, the halving would actually put pressure on peace. Moscow does not understand other motifs. He was in the picture that the West is currently negotiating a price compromise. “Start of the compromises towards Russia”, each of these compromises delayed peace, said Selenskyj.
EU plans sanctions against energy and banking sector
The EU Commission had previously proposed new sanctions against Russia to meet the nuclear energy and banking sector. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed the reduction of the specified maximum price from $ 60 to $ 45. However, the member states must vote on this measure.
Against the background of unprecedented Russian attacks, Selenskyj’s demands come from the air against Ukrainian cities and municipalities. According to the Ukrainian head of state, the attacks with ever higher drone numbers are not a reaction to the Ukrainian coup against the strategic bomber fleet of Russia at the beginning of the month. Russia has been using more and more weapons in the attacks for months, emphasized Selenskyj. The trend is steady and witness that Russia is not interested in peace.
