First soldiers march, now there is a curfew. Los Angeles does not come to rest. And the duel between the US president and the governor of California is becoming more and more bitter.
In view of days of demonstrations against the migration policy of US President Donald Trump in Los Angeles, the city has imposed a nightly lock in the center. The regulation initially applies to the night of Wednesday (local time), the mayor of La, Karen Bass, said. However, she expects the nightly lock to maintain over several days. In the political power struggle around the demonstrations, the tone between Trump and California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, worsens.
The US President accused newsoma and bass of complicity with radical demonstrators in LA. The two had “paid for troublemakers, wardrobes and rebel,” said Trump without any evidence. In a surprising speech to the citizens against Trump, Newsom announced it, described him as a dictator and his approach in La and the whole country as an attack on American democracy.
Trump’s demonstration of power
In Los Angeles, people have been demonstrating to Trump’s hard migration courses and offspring. The US government has therefore mobilized 4,000 soldiers from the National Guard and 700 marine fans of the regular armed forces for their work in Los Angeles – for the sake of newsoms. The soldiers gradually arrive and, according to Trump’s will, should stay in the city until there is no danger. So far, an assignment has been scheduled for a maximum of 60 days.
Trump’s decision to send members of the National Guard and the regular armed forces against the will of the responsible governor to LA is a significant escalation and demonstration of power by the president. His approach is extremely unusual and controversial.
In LA there were protests and arrests again, but continued to be manageable. On Tuesday afternoon local time, hundreds of people gathered at various locations in the west coast metropolis to protest against Trump’s deportation policy. They face a growing number of police officers – and soldiers who protect the federal buildings in the city. In the evening of local time shortly before the start of the outcome lock, which initially applies from Tuesday evening 8:00 p.m. to Wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. (local time), only a few protesters were still in the center of Los Angeles. The police presence initially remained visibly high.
Bass complained that looting had occurred in the city center and property damage caused by graffiti. One wanted to counteract this through the outcome lock. Bass warned who does not stick to the guidelines will be arrested. At the same time, she emphasized that only a fraction of the entire city area was affected by the initial restriction. “Some pictures of the protests and violence appear that it was a city -wide crisis,” said Bass. That is not the case.
In other cities, such as New York or Chicago, there were protests against Trump’s migration policy. In the election campaign, the Republican had promised to start the largest deportation program in US history.
Trump’s theory of conspiracy
Trump described the protests against his migration policy as “fully developed attack on peace, public order and our national sovereignty”. In a speech at the Fort Bragg military base in the state of North Carolina, he promised to send other soldiers and resources to Los Angeles if necessary in order to restore law and order. The demonstrators there are “animals”.
The US President simply claimed that Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass had hired the troublemakers. “You are involved in this deliberate attempt to override the federal law and to support the occupation of the city by criminal intruders.”
Bass rejected Trump’s accusation in an interview by the television station CNN as “completely absurd”. Trump has already publicly claimed that the demonstrators in LA are paid. How often in such accusations he called no evidence. Trump said the Ministry of Justice will find out who is behind it.
When asked by journalists, who pays the demonstrators, the Republican moved something from his allegation against Newsom and bass after his appearance in North Carolina and said: “Someone pays that.”
The California governor, in turn, turned to the citizens in an evening address and used them for an all -round against Trump’s politics – also beyond the argument about LA. The President Hebele has the separation of powers in the United States, who had overlooked supervisors who could hold him accountable for corruption and fraud. He had explained the war on culture and science that universities wanted to tell universities what they can teach and target media and freedom of expression. “Democracy is attacked before our eyes,” said Newsom.
Newsom criticized, Trump militarized the streets of LA, traumatiere American communities with its deportation policy and split society. He has plates, gardeners, day laborers and seamstresses. “Authoritarian regime begins to target people who are least able to defend themselves.”
With a view to the large military parade planned for the weekend in the US capital Washington, in parallel to Trump’s birthday, Newsoma complains: “This Saturday he orders our American hero – the military of the United States – to celebrate a vulgar spectacle to celebrate his birthday, as other failed dictators in the past have done.” It is “time that we all stand up for justice”, newsoma appealed to the citizens and at the same time called on to protest peacefully against Trump’s government.
Trump and Newsom have been around the anti-government protests in the LA for days. The two recurring each other with severe accusations. At times, Trump even expressed public approval for the idea of having newsoma arrested if necessary if he was supposed to hinder the work of the US government.
The democratic governor is a favorite enemy of Trump. It is an open secret that Newsom itself has ambitions on the presidency and that a possible candidacy for the Democrats is based in the 2028 election.
