War in Ukraine: Russia calmly because of the possibly new oil price lid

Russia reacted calmly to the EU sanction plans for an even lower price lid for its oil. “Russia does not live the first day under various restrictions, which we think is primarily illegal,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow, according to the Russian news agency Interfax. “And Russia has already gained some very useful experiences to minimize the consequences of such decisions.”

The EU wants to reduce the price cover for Russian oil from currently $ 60 per barrel to $ 45 per barrel. The aim is that the energy -gross power, which has been waging against Ukraine for more than three years, takes less money from the sale of raw materials.

Kremlin: No stabilization on the oil market

Peskow also said that the possible reduction in the price lid does not lead to stabilization in the international markets for energy and oil. Russia sells its oil, especially to China and India and thus generates billions in income that is also used for the war economy. With an even lower price cover, the EU wants to further deteriorate the situation for Russia’s state budget, which depends on raw material sales.

Moscow repeatedly emphasizes that the EU with its previous 17 sanction packages has not reached its goal of stopping the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia is demonstratively unimpressed by the sanctions, at the same time it feels the country massively and calls for an end to the end of the fighting a cancellation of the punitive measures.

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj had called for the halving of the price limit for Russian oil to $ 30 in order to build up real pressure on Russia. The EU plans do not go far enough for Ukraine.
