“Democrats believe in the argument that anti -democrats believe in resentment,” says the non -partisan Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer in an interview – and located in the political spectrum.
Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer (independent) appeals to more cohesion in Germany’s political center. “When I look at the AfD in its size, fashion and latent aggressiveness in the Bundestag, I feel much closer to Social Democrats and Greens,” said the 60-year-old, who is located in Friedrich Merz (CDU) in the Chancellery, the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” (No. 25/2025 of June 12).
“Because we have an awareness of the power of the argument. For the fact that the other person might be right,” said Weimer. “Democrats believe in the argument that anti -democrats believe in the resentment. That is a big difference.”
Freedom rooms are “attacked”
In the “Streit” interview of the “Zeit” with Bascha Mika, Weimer explains his view of world politics: “The four great world powers-China, Russia, India and the USA-are moving towards authoritarianism and nationalism. Or have already arrived there. In these countries, freedom spaces are attacked in a way that we could not imagine.” Weimer’s conclusion for Germany: “In view of this threat, our differences in the political center lose importance.”
Weimer has been Minister of State for the Federal Chancellor and Federal Government for Culture and Media for a few weeks. Previously, he was editor -in -chief (“world”, “Cicero”, “Focus”) and publicist. He is the author of many books (“The Conservative Manifesto”). He was often held up to be a neoliberal right -wing conservative.
