Germany recently tightened its migration policy. Now Poland’s head of government Donald Tusk is thinking about pulling the same.
Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk is considering introducing controls on the border with Germany. It is “very likely that we will introduce such partial controls on the border to Germany from this summer,” said Tusk in Parliament in Warsaw on Wednesday.
He reacts to the procedure of the black and red federal government. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) had ordered increased border controls a month ago and rejection of asylum seekers. The Polish government protested the measures. Tusk said on Wednesday that he had warned the Federal Government that Warsaw “would watch every attempt to send any migrant to Poland”.
Migration policy was a central topic in the presidential election campaign in Poland. The election victory of the legal nationalist Karol Nawrocki, who demands stricter controls on the border with Germany, is a bit of setback for Tusk’s liberal-conservative government. The Prime Minister then asked the question of trust. His government won the coordination in parliament on Wednesday with 243 to 210 votes.
