The number of soldiers in Los Angeles continues. The protests mostly remain peaceful – US President Trump still warns of chaos. The outcome lock remains.
US President Donald Trump warns of a light-loving city, but those responsible in Los Angeles appease facts. The predominantly peaceful protests only affect a very small area and only a tiny part of the population of the city of the million, said the senior public prosecutor for the Los Angeles district, Nathan Hochman. There are fewer riots from day to day.
From the evening (8:00 p.m. local time; 5 a.m. MESZ Thursday), the center of Los Angeles near the prison building, where the US immigration authority ICE migrants, plans to deport them, again. Only a small part in the center of the extensive metropolis on the Pacific was affected.
Until Wednesday morning (local time), the police in Los Angeles arrested 203 people for unauthorized protests and 17 people for violations of the curfew.
Prosecutor: 99.99 percent peaceful and lawful
Hochman defended itself against the presentation of certain media and politicians, who represent Los Angeles as a city that sinks into violence in chaos. 99.9 percent of the residents did not participate in the protests against deportations. Among the demonstrators it is only a small minority, perhaps about 400 people who participate in riots or vandalism. “This means that 99.99 percent of people who live in the city of Los Angeles or in the district have not undertaken any illegal actions in connection with these protests,” he said.
On Wednesday there were rather smaller protests in Los Angeles, New York, San Antonio, in Raleigh and in other cities, which initially remained largely peaceful. Nevertheless, the military presence in Los Angeles will be expanded on Thursday: In the afternoon (local time), another 2,000 soldiers from the National Guard are to arrive, as the responsible commander, Scott Sherman, explained to journalists.
Military: Soldiers are still being trained for use in LA
They would strengthen the 2,000 soldiers of the National Guard that were already in use. In addition, the arrival of 700 marine fans of the regular US military would be expected shortly, said Sherman. You would have previously completed a two -day training session for use in protests and dealing with crowds in the civilian environment.
The soldiers protected by the federal government and the officials of the immigration authority ICE in raids against migrants without valid residence permits, said Sherman. If necessary, they should also set demonstrators, but would then have to wait for security forces who are entitled to carry out arrests.
Trump relies on a military answer
The commitment of the naval fanists announced on Monday at the behest of President Trump is considered the protests as a further escalation of the Federal Government’s reaction. Soldiers are trained for military missions and the war, not for police tasks such as control of protests in American city centers.
The National Guard, on the other hand, is a military reserve unit that is part of the US armed forces. Each state has its own national guard, which can be used in forest fires, hurricanes, floods or unrest inside. Trump’s government has ordered the use of 4,000 national guards – against the will of California and the city of Los Angeles.
Trump continues to speak of chaos in Los Angeles
Meanwhile, the president continues to speak of severe riots in Los Angeles. “If I hadn’t acted quickly, Los Angeles would just burn down to the foundations.” The protests are about “radical left -wing mad,” said Trump on the sidelines of an evening event in Washington.
