The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the statements of British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss about the plans of the Russian Federation to “invade” Ukraine under a “false flag” disinformation.
“This is feeding with this misinformation to their local journalists and tabloids. First, they come up with something that doesn’t exist, like Liz Truss once again, and then they talk about the consequences,” the diplomat said in a video posted on her Telegram channel.
According to Zakharova, Moscow has repeatedly spoken about the use of “foreign flags” in Ukraine, but in the context of possible provocations by the West.
“Perhaps we are talking about the fact that they (Great Britain. – Izvestia) will use their flag? I don’t know, this is a question for them, ”said the representative of the department.
Earlier in the day, Truss said Russia was likely preparing a “false flag operation” in Ukraine. In an interview with Sky News, the British minister suggested that Moscow, as a pretext for an “invasion”, would announce a provocation from Kiev. At the same time, she did not provide any evidence for the unfounded accusations, noting only that such actions are allegedly characteristic of Russia.
Also, the head of the British Foreign Office said that she would believe in the absence of Moscow’s plans to invade Ukraine only when Russia withdraws all its troops from the borders.
Zakharova stressed that it is time for the British authorities to apologize for their reports about the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine. The head of the department, Sergei Lavrov, in turn, again stressed that statements about the alleged “invasion” of Russian troops into Ukraine are speculation and “information terrorism.”
On February 15, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that servicemen began to return from the exercises. The units of the Southern and Western military districts have already started loading to go to their deployment points. As Lavrov stressed, the withdrawal of Russian troops to their places of deployment does not depend on the hysteria of the West, it was planned. At the same time, the minister once again reminded that Russia has the sovereign right to conduct military exercises on its territory at its own discretion.
On February 10, talks were held between the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Great Britain. The head of the Russian department described the conversation as a conversation between “the dumb and the deaf.” According to Lavrov, relations between the Russian Federation and Great Britain leave much to be desired, while the deterioration in relations is not the fault of Moscow.
