The United Nations General Assembly votes with a large majority for a resolution that demands an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Germany votes different from the USA and Israel.
The United Nations General Assembly has again called for an immediate, unconditional and persistent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Germany and 148 other member countries voted in New York for the resolution, but twelve countries – including Israel and the USA. 19 contained in the vote on the paper, which also requires an release of the hostages from the violence of Islamist Hamas and humanitarian help for people in the Gaza Strip.
Resolutions of the UN General Assembly are not binding, but have political symbolic power. The committee has already passed similar resolutions several times since the beginning of the Gaza War in October 2023.
