Washington and Tehran wanted to continue negotiating on the Iranian nuclear program on Sunday. Then the Israeli attack came. Now an intermediary says Oman, the round of talks does not take place.
After the military escalation between Israel and Iran, the nuclear conversation round between Iran and the USA, planned for this Sunday, does not come about. “The talks between Iran and the USA planned for this Sunday do not take place. But diplomacy and dialogue remain the only way to permanent peace,” said Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Bussaidi on the platform X. Oman is a mediator in the nuclear discussions.
Since Friday morning, Israel has been running a major attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, leading military and nuclear scientists as well as defense positions and cities. Iran sees the air attacks as a declaration of war. In the night of Saturday, Iran then shot hundreds of rockets and drones towards Israel, which also hit Tel Aviv in the densely populated greater area.
Trump rose from the Vienna nuclear pact in 2018
In mid -April, Iran and the United States started their nuclear talks. Israel, the United States and other western states, fear that Iran secretly develops nuclear weapons. Tehran, on the other hand, emphasizes that the program only serves civil purposes.
In 2015, Iran had already agreed to restrict its nuclear program in the Vienna nuclear Agreement after long negotiations with China, Russia, the USA, France, Germany and Great Britain. However, Trump unilaterally got out of the pact in 2018 and imposed new, hard sanctions.
Since the 1979 revolution, the United States has actually been an arch enemy of the Iranian state. In the same year, students occupied the US message in Tehran-an event that led to the termination of diplomatic relationships.
