United nations for humanitarian aid have always had a hard time, rarely the money really comes together. Now the location has gotten worse.
Due to acute lack of money, the UN Nothilfebüro (OCHA) has to delete planned humanitarian aid for millions. Never before had the funds for humanitarian aid decreased so drastically, the office said. Not only the USA, but other countries have also significantly shortened their budgets for international help.
Instead of hoping for $ 44 billion (around EUR 38 billion) for the year as it was planned in December, she is now only aiming for $ 29 billion. However, too, it is not said that the money will come together at all. It was only $ 5.6 billion in June. Instead of 180 million people, only 114 million can be supported with the shortened plan – if the money is received, as Ocha reports.
OCHA does not call countries in which the budgets are shortened. Wherever possible, the poorest in all countries should continue to help with OCHA programs.
