Donald Trump to Russia’s outline: “Putin was very offended”

US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Russia’s exclusion from the G8. Shortly before the official start of this year’s G7 summit of the great democratic economic powers in Canada, Trump complained that the decision was a “big mistake” at the time. “I think there would be no war if Russia was there,” said the Republican at a meeting with Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney with a view to the Russian attack war against Ukraine. It makes things much more difficult that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is no longer at the table.

Putin was very insulted when he was banished from the round, Trump said. “The way I would be, the way they were, the way everyone would be.” The Kremlin boss therefore speaks to anyone except with him, Trump emphasized. At the moment it is not the right time to resume Russia because too much has happened in the meantime, he emphasized. But the exclusion at the time was wrong.

The talks of the seven major industrialized nations have been in the group since 1975. Russia was later included in the group, which was called G8 for several years. In 2014, however, Russia was then excluded again because of the annexation of the Black Sea Peninsula Crimea shortly before a summit in Russian Sochi. Since then, the format has existed again as a G7.

Trump had often referred to Russia as a mistake in the past and temporarily advertised the country for the country’s resumption. He recently refrained from that. At the request of a reporter, whether China was one of the largest economies in the world to be included in the round, Trump replied at the meeting with Carney that this was “not a bad idea”.
