War between Israel and Iran: Netanyahu: killing Chamenis could end conflict

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not seem to rule out a targeted killing of Iran’s highest leader Ajatollah Ali Chamenei. “This will not let the conflict escalate, that will end the conflict,” Netanyahu said in an interview with the US broadcaster ABC when asked whether he shares the concern of the US government that a killing ice cream could have the conflict out of control. The Iranian regime has been terrorizing the Middle East with sabotage files and terrorism for half a century, he said.

At another point in the interview with the ABC journalist Jonathan Karl, Netanyahu said on a direct question of whether Israel is planning to kill Chamenei: “We do what we have to do. I will not discuss any details.” There were reports at the weekend that US President Donald Trump has been appealing against Israeli plans for the killing of the Iranian head of state in the past few days.

Israel already killed Hisbollah and Hamas,

In his fight against the Shiite Hisbollah militia in Lebanon, the Israeli military killed its long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah in an air raid at the end of 2024. In the fight against Islamist Hamas, the Israelis killed numerous leaders of the group in the Gaza Strip, and the leader Ismail Hanija, who lives in Qatar, was killed in an attack in Tehran.

Netanyahu said Israel traded in Iran to neutralize the “existential threat”, which is out of the country. Negotiations between the United States and Iran about the nuclear program would not have managed to fix the Iranian danger, he said. He also does not believe that Tehran is now or in the future on the negotiating channel to remove his nuclear program.

Israel, the USA and others fear that Iran wants to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran denies this. In both cases, the Israeli war of aggression against Iran would be contrary to international law, as is the targeted murder of political or military leaders from other countries.
