Against the background of Israeli attacks, the US President calls on the capital to leave the capital. Could that cause a mass escape?
In view of the war between Israel and Iran, US President Donald Trump asked the inhabitants of the city of Tehran to flee. “Everyone should leave Tehran immediately,” Trump wrote on their Truth Social platform. In the Iranian capital, which has been shaken by Israeli attacks for days, an estimated around nine million people live. There have been reports of long traffic jams on default roads since the weekend because many residents flee. A total of around 15 million people are said to live in the greater Tehran area.
It remained unclear what the motivation for Trump’s call for evacuation was. In his post, Trump wrote that Tehran should have signed the agreement he proposed in the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program. That is a “waste of human life”. Trump added to capital letters: “Iran is not allowed to have any nuclear weapon.”
In the afternoon, Israel initially called for a Tehran district to evacuate around 300,000 inhabitants. Shortly afterwards, the main building of a state broadcaster was hit there. Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had called for the residents of Tehran to flee. “We tell the citizens of Tehrans:” Leave the area! ” – and we act,” says Netanyahu.
The US military supports Israel’s defense. At the same time, the US government emphasizes that it does not participate in the fighting between Israel and Iran.
