Abuses to people who are Muslims or are perceived as such, according to employees of advice centers, have achieved an alarming extent. The target are often women.
People affected by anti -Muslim racism rarely turn to government agencies to file a complaint or to receive support. This assessment comes to employees of advice centers who work with the Claim network.
Last year, “a high degree of distrust of state, but also civil society institutions” became clear, according to Claim’s nationwide annual balance sheet. There is a climate of fear. In addition, an increasing resignation among those affected can be observed. In the school field, incidents would often not be reported because parents were afraid of repression.
More than 3,000 verified cases in 2024
As the balance sheet for 2024 shows, the network documented 3,080 cases of anti -Muslim racism above and below the penalty limit last year, after 1,926 registered cases in 2023.
These figures are not directly comparable: Last year, the number of participating advice centers rose from 17 to 26 in 13 federal states, as Güzin Ceyhan from Claim explained. But the 17 advice centers, which already took part in 2023, also reported a “significantly higher advisory volume”. Some actions of the past year are “very brutal and inhumane,” said Ceyhan.
In around 70 percent of the 2024, anti -Muslim incidents were targeted women. Since a high number of unreported cases must be assumed, the gender distribution does not allow any representative conclusions. However, the number of cases would be in accordance with the results of corresponding studies.
Flat -rate criminalization of Muslims
Adults, but also children, are insulted as “knife”, anti -Semites or terrorists and sometimes also threatened, reports the network. In it, social, media and political debates were reflected. Verbal and assault attacks had increased, particularly after the terrorist attack of the Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023, and in a temporal connection to presumably Islamistically motivated terrorist attacks in Germany.
In some cases, the trivialization of the Holocaust is linked to Muslims for property damage and insults with hatred, Claim has determined. Ceyhan reported 13-year-old girls who were insulted by pensioners in Dresden as “headscarf jews” and mosques that were smeared with swastikas. According to Claim, a Palestinian family saw the saying “dirty Arabs, finally disappears from Europe!” confronted. Another family had put a pork head outside the door.
