EU diplomat allegedly beaten up by Russian agents

It is known that the regime in Russia is doing hard against critics in its own ranks. But even foreign diplomats are obviously not certain.

According to a media report, an EU diplomat has apparently been beaten up by two employees of the Russian secret service in Vladiwostok in the Far East of Russia. As the “Spiegel” reported on Tuesday, citing diplomatic circles, the incident occurred on May 26 near a hotel in the big city. The Romanian EU representative was therefore on a business trip in the city.

Romanian diplomat apparently attacked while walking

As the “Spiegel” continues, the employee was on a walk around 7:00 a.m., according to diplomatic circles, because they could no longer sleep. Near her hotel, a car kept next to her that two men got out of him, who threatened and beat them up. It is “very strong” assumed that the attackers are employees of the Russian domestic secret service FSB.

How the woman is doing is therefore unclear. The government of Romania did not answer a corresponding “mirror” request.

According to “Spiegel”, a spokeswoman for the EU Commission said on request that the incident was examined that no further details could currently be mentioned. The representative of Russia in Belgium was “ordered” for clarification. The Commission will “continue to check” the protection of the EU’s diplomatic staff.
