Mossad’s most spectacular operations
With the help of his secret service, Israel has been infiltrating Iran for years. Even with the latest attacks, the Mossad is said to have had his fingers in the game.
Fast, precise, fatal – the Mossad is one of the best secret services in the world and is known for its spectacular operations. Agents of the foreign secret service are also said to have been deployed deep inside the enemy country in the current military operation in Iran. In advance, a secret base was built in Iran, on which precision weapons and drones were previously stored in the country, as the Israeli newspaper Haaretz and other international media report.
With the beginning of the offensive on Friday, Israeli fighter jets bombed command bunkers of Iranian military leadership and nuclear facilities. According to the authorities, more than 224 people in Iran have been killed so far, in Israel at least 14 people.
It is not the first time that Israel can infiltrate Iran. A great Jewish minority lived in Iran until 1979. After the Islamic Revolution, many of them fled to Israel, but kept their language skills and maintained their networks. The Mossad is said to be able to smuggle agents into the country through these connections.
The Mossad is known for extraordinary operations

- Adult Adolf Eichmann: The kidnapping of the German Nazi criminal Adolf EichmannThe Israeli secret service is legendary. Mossad spies, Eichmann, who was one of the main responsible for the deportation and murder of the European Jews, feels in Argentina in 1960. They overwhelm him on the open street in Buenos Aires. - Killing of Jihia Ajasch: In January 1996, the Israeli secret service killed the Hamas military chief and bomb builder Jihia Ajasch by explosive in his mobile phone, which is ignited from a distance. Back then – as far as known – Israel was the first country to use a communication device for an assassination, wrote the Israeli secret service expert Ronen Bergman.
- Failed attack on chalet mashaal: The attempted murder of Hamas leader Chaled Maschaal, now the terror organization interim, in September 1997 is one of the greatest failures of the Mossad. Israeli agents try to spray Mashaal in the Jordan capital Amman with a fatal poison. King Hussein reacts so outraged to the poison attack that he forces the then and today’s head of government Benjamin Netanyahu to have an antidote to save Mashaals. In order to free the two agents from Jordanian detention in the attack, Israel is forced to free the spiritual Hamas leader Ahmed Jassin. In 2004 this died of Israel’s targeted air raid.
- Failed listening attempt: Five agents were caught in February 1998 when they want to install listening systems in a residential building in a marginal community of Bern. The police arrest a man, four lets them run after checking their wrong passports. The arrested agent gets away with a suspended sentence. The incident significantly contributes to the resignation of the then Mossad boss Danny Jatom.
- Mahmud al-Mabhu murder: In January 2010, Hamas military leader Mahmud al-Mabhuh was murdered in his hotel room in Dubai. It is first immobilized with medication and then suffocated. Israeli media refer to Al-Mabhuh as mastermind of the kidnapping and murder of Israeli soldiers in 1989. The Arabic authorities suspect 27, who have entered fake European passes and are said to have left Dubai immediately after the crime. Around a month later, Dubai’s chief of police accused Mossad, Israel denies every participation.
- Killing of Ismail Hanija: In July 2024, Hamas chief Ismail Hanija was on a visit to the Iranian capital Tehran to attend the swearing in of the new Iranian President Massud Peseschkian. A few hours later, Hanija is killed in an attack in a residence in the north of the capital. Israel is held responsible for Hanija’s killing by a targeted rocket attack. The head of foreign foreign is the highest Hamas leader who has been killed since the beginning of the Gaza War in October 2023.
- Manipulated pager: First Pager, then radio devices – in September 2024 the Lebanon is haunted by a wave of explosions, as mysterious and terrifying. Apparently, he intercepted the radio devices and pagers ordered by the Hezbollah and prepared with explosives – a logistical mammoth campaign that is reminiscent of agent novels. Israel’s chief of staff Herzi Halevi then makes it clear: “We still have many skills that we have not yet used.”
