Russia sees itself on the way to victory in Ukraine. But in the south of the Donetsk region, the troops make it difficult. Now the chief of staff has made a rare visit to the troop.

According to Moscow, the Russian chief of staff Waleri Gerassimow inspected the advance of its own occupation troops in the east of Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow published a video that should show the general during a helicopter flight to the front area and in a command point when a position in the center of the Army Group. Gerassimow checked the fulfillment of the fighting tasks of troops in the Pokrowsk area, the Ministry said.

According to observers, the visit to Gerassimov could indicate that Moscow is dissatisfied with the progress of his own units in the region. Last week, according to the Ministry of Defense, he was also on the front during an inspection of the West Army Group. The last visit before it was three months ago.

Hardly progressed for the Russians for months

Pokrowsk is a city in the west of the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. It has been difficult to compete for months and has now almost completely destroyed. The Ukrainian defenders were able to slow down the Russian occupiers’ advance to the city. However, the troops controlled by Moscow have managed to move in the north and especially in the south of the city, so that the city threatens a circle.
