The war between Israel and Iran continues unabated. Now the foreign ministers from Germany, France and Great Britain want to meet with the Iranian Foreign Minister.
Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul and his colleagues from France and Great Britain want to meet the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi on Friday. A conversation in Geneva was planned, the German press agency learned from diplomatic circles in Berlin.
Immediately after the Israeli attack on Iran, WadePhul had changed his Middle East trip planned to Lebanon, Syria and Israel on Friday. Instead, he had flown to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman for crisis talks. The government in Oman in particular has very good contacts to Tehran.
With this trip, WadePhul wanted to achieve a concerted action by the so-called E3 countries Germany, France and Great Britain, which have been negotiating with Tehran for years about its nuclear program, and Iran’s Arabic countries for a diplomatic solution in the war.
The United States and Iran had negotiated almost two months with the GulfMirat Oman, before Israel started the major attack on Iran on Friday. Iran reacted with intensive rocket fire.
Negotiation round after war canceled
A new round of talks in Oman was actually planned for the past Sunday. Most recently, negotiations stalled at the central question of uranium enrichment. Iran had recently enriched almost weapon -capable material. However, Tehran was ready to restrict his program as in the 2015 Vienna Nuclear Agreement, but did not want to give up the ability to enrich.
US President Donald Trump repeated a demand for a “unconditional surrender” on Wednesday, but on the other hand, it did not complete further negotiations. It wasn’t too late yet. Trump got out of the Vienna nuclear agreement in 2018. After that, Tehran no longer adhered to the requirements.
War continues unabated
At a meeting with his Jordan counterpart Aiman Al-Safadi in Berlin, WadePhul announced on Wednesday that he had a negotiation offer on Monday with his French colleague Jean-Noël Barrot, the British Foreign Minister David Lammy and the EU foreign officer Kaja Kallas on Monday. One continues to be ready to negotiate a solution. To do this, however, Tehran urgently has to move and “take trust -building and verifiable measures, for example by making leadership in Tehran credible that it does not strive for any nuclear weapons”. He added: “It is never too late to get to the negotiating table when you get honestly.”
Meanwhile, the war between Israel and Iran continues unabated. Recently, observers had expressed little hope for a diplomatic solution in the nuclear dispute with Iran. Israel founded his war with the “existential threat” by the Iranian nuclear and rocket program.
