The Chancellor has put himself behind the Israeli attacks on Iran. Merz is sharply criticized for his drastic choice of words, but he also gets support.
Israel’s ambassador Ron Prosor greeted the support for Israel’s attack on the Iranian nuclear facilities expressed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and protected the CDU chairman against criticism of his choice of words. “Chancellor Friedrich Merz clearly described the realities in the Middle East with his choice of words,” said Prosor of the German Press Agency.
Merz had said on the edge of the G7 summit in Canada on ZDF: “This is the dirty work, the Israel does for everyone.” He was sharply criticized by politicians from the opposition and the SPD.
ZDF presenter Diana Zimmermann had used the word “dirty work” in her question, and Merz picked up-completely his answer: “Ms. Zimmermann, I am grateful for the term dirt work. This is the dirty work that Israel is affected by all of us. We are also affected by this regime. This Mullah regime has brought death and destruction over the world.”
“Terror supply must be interrupted”
Prosor now holds against the criticism of the phrase. “The Iranian nuclear program is primarily directed against Israel, but threatens the security of the whole world,” he told the dpa. “The rockets, which are currently making Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, also threaten Berlin, Paris and London. The supply chain of terror must be interrupted.”
“Litmus test” for Europeans
Sometimes that is already the case, says Prosor. “Weapons for the war against Ukraine were severely disturbed. The Huthis attacks on seafaring between Europe and Asia have decreased.” The European reaction is observed very closely worldwide. “She is a litmus test for the question of whether the Europeans are willing to stand up for their values and interests.”
