During the Corona pandemic, politics was also overwhelmed. Some measures were misleading. Now the Bundestag should take a close look again.
Five years after the beginning of Corona pandemic, the Union and SPD in the Bundestag want to deal with the processing of the measures and failures. The coalition partners agreed on the establishment of an Enquete Commission, as both factions announced.
SPD parliamentary group vice Dagmar Schmidt spoke of an important signal. “We look, we listen and we learn,” said the social democrat. “Corona pandemic was a deep turning point-for families, children, nurses, self-employed and many others in our society.” Therefore, it is about a comprehensive processing. “We want to understand what worked well – and what not,” added Schmidt. You want to learn from mistakes. At the same time, it is about social healing.
Albert Stegemann, Vice -President of the Union Group, said the goal was to deal with without party political blaming. “This is the only way we can draw the necessary teachings in order to be better prepared for future similar crisis locations,” said Stegemann.
Hardly any event had had such a comprehensive influence on all citizens. “Scientists, experts, representatives of interests and of course also those affected are closely involved in the work of the Commission,” said Stegemann.
The establishment of an Enquete Commission was already announced in the CDU, CSU and SPD coalition agreement. Unlike an investigation committee, such commissions are more designed for consensus. They consist of MPs and experts from science and practice. In the end there is a final report, often with recommendations for legislation.
