Olaf Scholz is no longer a chancellor, but should continue to have employees – more than actually planned.
After his chancellorship, Olaf Scholz (SPD) is said to receive an office with eight employees. This emerges from a template for the main committee of the Bundestag, which is available to the German Press Agency and about which several media reported. This is more employees than intended – however, the support for “the expected development of his subsequent activity” is necessary, the Ministry of Finance explains and states that the Russian attack on Ukraine fell in Scholz’s term.
It is common that former Federal Chancellor will receive an office and employee from the state. Former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) received nine employees, former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD), who now has no office, seven.
In 2019, the budget committee decided that future Chancellor and Federal President should only get a office manager, two speakers, an office or writer and a driver. That would be three employees less than for Scholz.
According to the template, Schwarz-Rot wants to create 208 new jobs, 150 of them for the new Digital Ministry. In this case, however, “unexpectedly equal extent” would be saved in other ministries, it is said.
