Extremism: trial date against Franco A. postponed

In the case of the terrorist suspect Franco A., the next appointment has to be postponed. The reason: a member of the senate of the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court is ill.

Due to the illness of a member of the senate of the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court, the trial date in the case of the terrorist suspect Franco A. has been canceled this Thursday.

Now the procedure is to be continued on February 24, as the court announced. A few days ago there had been a new arrest warrant against the accused. The 33-year-old, who is accused of preparing a serious crime endangering the state before the Higher Regional Court, was arrested on Sunday.

During a check, objects had previously been found on him, which the police are now evaluating as possible evidence. The arrest warrant was justified with the risk of escape and collusion.

The federal prosecutor accuses A. of planning attacks on politicians. The officer also assumed a false identity as a Syrian refugee – from the point of view of the prosecutors, in order to direct suspicion of an attack against refugees and to shake confidence in asylum policy. The federal prosecutor sees a völkisch-nationalist attitude as a motive.

According to the Higher Regional Court, an appointment in the war crimes trial against a Syrian doctor will also be canceled on Thursday because of the illness. The trial against Alaa M., who the federal prosecutor accuses of crimes against humanity, is scheduled to continue on February 22.
