In the war with Iran, the tone of some Israeli politicians becomes sharper. Prime Minister Netanyahu is also combative, but does not pretend. Is there a strategy behind it?
Israel is in the war – and in addition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, hardly any other politician in the country is currently in focus as much as the Israeli Minister of Defense Israel Katz. More than in other countries, this post in Israel is one of the most important offices. Because of his aggressive and rough species, Katz is already considered a “bulldozer”. But since the beginning of the war with Iran, the politician has noticed with particularly shrill tones.
Hardly a day goes by without martial and rugged threats to Iran and its top leader Ajatollah Ali Chamenei, who sends cats into the world on social media. In addition, Katz speaks of the “Iranian snake”, which “has to be” guts “. Again and again it seems as if the 69-year-old wanted to determine the line of the government with his threatening words or at least fired speculations about their following steps.
There was, for example, the barely misleading announcement, Iran’s top guide Ajatollah Ali Chameni should not “continue”. Chamenei is also the “modern Hitler,” said Katz when visiting the city of Cholon attacked by Iran. If the Israeli army had already existed at the time, Hitler would have been killed in his bunker in the Second World War.
Netanyahu comments more reluctantly
For days there has been speculation that Israel is also striving for a overthrow in the course of his offensive in Iran. High -ranking representatives of the Israeli government have so far been held back. US President Donald Trump is also said to have lodged an objection to a suspected plan of Israel, according to a US government agent, to kill Chameni.
Katz ‘statement on the visit to cholon therefore attracted attention. Prime Minister Netanyahu apparently raised the research of his minister, who was promptly reacted by. “I think you have to choose the words carefully and the deeds with accuracy,” said the head of government later at an appointment. “This is what I ask, not only from myself, but also from my ministers.” The motto is: “Talk little and do a lot.”
Ben-Gvir and Smotrich are also noticeable
A similar case was Katz ‘threat after Iranian attacks on Israeli cities, the residents of Tehran would pay the “price – and soon”. In addition, he called Chamenei a “large -mouthed dictator” and “cowardly murderers”. The excitement was great: Katz had really announced that Israel would specifically attack civilians? A few hours later, he rowed back and made it clear that he did not want to cause physical damage to people.
Around Netanyahu, some men are flocking in his government who stand out with extreme tones. In addition to the police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, also known abroad, there is also the finance minister Bezhalel Smotrich. The two right-wing extremists are often mentioned in perception abroad as an example of the right-wing trains of the Netanyahu government.
Ben-Gvir jumped aside after his hints of wanting to see Chamenei after life and striving for a coup in Iran. “The Ajatollah regime has to be destroyed,” he wrote on X. “We have a strong people and a great army-they do the best work. We have a courageous prime minister, and continue to the Minister of Defense.”
It did not take long for Smotrich to also switch on and wrote Katz ‘statements in an interview with the government -related broadcaster Channel 14. “Chameni is afraid,” said the politician there.
Netanyahu has also been combative since the beginning of the war and uncompromisingly in fulfilling the war goals. However, he tried to iron out extreme statements with comparatively quiet tones. In a recent TV interview, he made another hint of Katz ‘clear: A creation in Iran had to go out from the population and is not a war goal of Israel.
Is there a strategy behind the dissonance?
However, observers do not necessarily explain the dissonance in the statements with internal disagreements. Katz is now firmly on Netanyahu’s side. The politician of the Netanyahu party Likud had held numerous ministerial posts since 2003 and has meanwhile been traded as competitor Netanyahus. As Foreign Minister during the Gaza War before his appointment as Minister of Defense, he vehemently pursued Netanyahu’s line. He also caused outrage worldwide with statements worldwide.
The Israeli journalist Yaron Avraham from the TV station N12 sees dissonance more of a tactic in which Netanyahu and its minister Katz, Ben-Gvir and Smotrich take the proverbial roles of the “Good Cop” and “Bad Cop”: One emphasizes harmlessly, the others emphasized. “Perhaps it is a strategy that the Prime Minister simply does not express it and leaves it in the vague and leaves it to the others,” said Avraham.
If Netanyahu wants, he can quickly silence his ministers. It is therefore striking that Netanyahu apparently has the three granted. However, Avraham is not sure whether the strategy makes sense. “If you want to shoot, do not shoot. Talk,” said Avraham, pointing to earlier killings of enemies like those of the Hamas and Hisbollah bosses. So far, Israel has driven well, and this strategy could also continue.
