Only the US military has the camouflage bombers that are necessary to drop the heavy “bunker breakers” bombs. They are regularly stationed in Missouri, but now there is probably movement.
According to media reports, Tarnkappenbomber left the US air base Whiteman in the state of Missouri. Several of these types of B-2 aircraft have entered the way to the west via the Pacific, reported the “Wall Street Journal” (WSJ) and the “Washington Post”, citing government officials and flight tracking services.
The “WSJ” evaluates this as a sign that the US government puts the tap cap bombers in the event of a possible attack on Iran. However, government officials also said that there was no order to prepare an attack. US President Donald Trump had explained on Thursday that he wanted to decide on a possible participation in the war within the next two weeks.
According to the “WSJ”, the flights could also help to put Iran under pressure in order to put pressure on a diplomatic solution to the conflict. The “Washington Post” spoke of a “probable demonstration of power”.
Why the Tarnkappenbomber are relevant
Only the US military has the B-2 Type Bombers, which are the only ones to advertise the 13.6 tons of so-called bunkerbreaker bomb. This has been the focus for days because, according to experts, this weapon only has a chance to destroy Iran’s underground uranium enrichment in Fordo. It was specially developed for the destinations, rock, rock or concrete.
According to the military, the B-2 has a supply limit of a good 18 tons. According to media reports, the Air Force has around 20 of these aircraft.
What is important for a possible use of the aircraft
Regularly, the camouflage bombers with a range of up to 9,600 kilometers are only stationed on the Whiteman air force base. This is around 11,000 kilometers as the crow flies from the possible destination for Fordo.
Use of such a distance is also possible-this is shown by a B-2 insert in Afghanistan confirmed by the US Air Force. When used over a large distance, the aircraft must be refueled in the air.
According to the broadcaster Fox News and the “WSJ”, Tarnkappenbomber could now be on the way to the US Air Force base in Andersen on the island of Guam. This is a little closer to Fordo: Aviation about 9,500 kilometers away. Satellite images from the past month show that the US military in the meantime had also stationed some of the tarpaulin bombers at a base on the island of Diego Garcia in the middle of the Indian Ocean. There are only around 5,000 kilometers between this base and Fordo.
