Russia’s Security Council warned against oversaturation of Ukraine with weapons

Deliveries of too many weapons to Ukraine could lead to an open clash in the Donbass. This was announced on Wednesday, February 16, by Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Mikhail Popov.

“Saturation, or rather, oversaturation of Ukraine with various types of weapons, unfortunately, can cause some leaders of the military department of this country, as well as representatives of nationalist groups located in areas bordering the Lugansk and Donetsk republics, the illusion of invincibility and push them to provoke open military clash,” Popov said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

According to the deputy secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, with so many armed forces and equipment in the region, one shot, even an accidental one, is enough to flare up the conflict even more.

“The supply by a number of Western countries of the Ukrainian army with so-called defensive weapons demonstrates the disdainful attitude of these states towards the lives of ordinary Ukrainians located on both sides of the conflict in the east of the country,” Popov concluded.

In addition, Popov said in an interview that the United States, in order to create a threat to Russia, formed a significant grouping of troops in Europe, numbering more than 60 thousand military men. According to him, the number of US ground forces in Europe has increased by 30%, the number of armored vehicles – four times.

The Russian Embassy in Washington back in January urged the United States to refuse to supply weapons to Ukraine. In a statement, the diplomatic mission noted that the United States should abandon plans to supply new batches of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine if they are actually committed to diplomatic efforts to resolve the intra-Ukrainian conflict.

Does not support the export of weapons from Germany to Ukraine and the country’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He emphasized that Berlin is “very actively” working to achieve a de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine. At the same time, the United States, Great Britain, the Czech Republic and other Western countries provide military assistance to Kiev.
