Contract until 2027
Ole Werner becomes the new trainer at RB Leipzig
It was a long and arduous search. RB Leipzig has now found a new trainer: Ole Werner takes over at the Bundesliga club.
After weeks of searching and canceling some candidates, RB Leipzig found the football coach for the start of sport. The former Bremen Ole Werner is supposed to lead the club from Saxony back into international business and in the fight for titles at the national level.
“I am very happy to be head coach from RB Leipzig from now on. In the very detailed conversations, it was immediately noticeable that there are the same ideas about game and working methods on both sides,” Werner is quoted by RB. “Together we will work hard on the first day of preparation to come back to the road to success with RB Leipzig,” said Leipzig’s sports director Marcel Schäfer.
Ole Werner receives contract by RB Leipzig until 2027
The 37 -year -old Werner, whose coaching career began at Holstein Kiel, receives a contract for two years to 2027 at RB Leipzig. Just a few days ago, Schäfer and his counterpart Clemens Fritz had a breakthrough in the long negotiations.
After the end of the past season, Werner himself had declared that he did not want to extend his contract. However, this would have been valid for a year until the end of June next year. Werder acted and released Werner immediately.
Werner is faced with a challenging job in Leipzig. RB separated from Marco Rose at the end of March. Zsolt Löw jumped up as an interim coach for the native of Leipzig. It was clear, however, that after the temporary mission, he would again work as chief strategist under Red Bull’s global football boss Jürgen Klopp.
From Fabregas to Glasner and Wagner to Davide Ancelotti
In his first six months on the new post, Klopp got plenty of work. He said he did not have to do persuasion at Werner. At the same time, there were also plenty of other names: CESC Fabregas (Como), Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), Roger Schmidt (most recently Benfica Lisbon) or Sandro Wagner (now FC Augsburg).
Even Davide Ancelotti, son and assistant coach of Carlo Ancelotti (now national coach in Brazil), was one of the candidates. Most recently, the Dane Jacob Neestrup from FC Copenhagen had fallen out of the raffle because the Danes had not granted the coach to the coach for an early termination of the contract.
Schäfer had announced a departure, combined with a personnel upheaval, immediately after the end of the season. Only seventh place was not enough, there was not much to see and felt from the RB philosophy. It will now also be exciting how the Leipziger squad will change, in which some players with a long RB past.
