Nico Rosberg, Formula 1 champion in 2016 with MercedesAlpine’s current management hardly questioned. In statements to the Podcast of Sky Sports F1, the former German pilot did not save criticism: “We know how important the stability for the performance of a team is”. The German compared the current situation with his experience in Mercedes, where he stressed that “the leaders of my time, 15 years ago, are still in most key roles.”

Criticism about Alpine’s desprolijities, according to Nico Rosberg
Rosberg was blunt when analyzing Alpine’s problems: “When I was in Mercedes and we ran in the last places, they almost decided to leave every weekend because they were investing a lot of money and the results were counterproductive from the point of view of marketing.” The former champion did not hesitate to point out that “It is the marketing that damages the Alpine and Renault brand if you are always running at the end of the grill.”
The German also made a comparison with Ferrari, another historical team that has had similar problems: “That is also one of Ferrari’s weaknesses, which has lacked stability. They have been changing many leadership positions constantly in recent years.” These statements arrive at a particularly delicate moment for Alpine, with the recent resignation of his CEO Luca de Meo and rumors about possible changes in his directive structure.
The changes in Alpine for 2026
On the future of the team, Rosberg warned: “In such a challenging context for the automotive industry, where sales are bitten, the transition to electric mobility is difficult”. The former pilot also warned about the growing competition: “The Chinese are coming and conquering more and more market share, Tesla is also gaining ground.”
The German was categorical when analyzing the financial situation: “The first thing that is cut is the marketing budget and the F1 team enters that budget”. And he concluded with a warning: “So now, with a new leadership, you have to be attentive to see if it is for or against F1, but it is a complicated situation.”
The departure of Luca de Meo, who will leave his position on July 15 to assume functions in the Luxury Keringing conglomerate, generates uncertainty about the future of the team. One of the most affected could be Flavio Briatore, whose position would be conditioned by the choice of the new CEO. As they pointed out in Auto Motor Sport: “Depending on who becomes the new CEO of Renault, Briatore could lose his post quickly.”
These statements of Rosberg show the serious challenges Alpine faces, both sports and organizational, while the French team seeks to recover its competitiveness in Formula 1.
