Wimbledon draw: Zverev ends up in the Alcaraz half

Alexander Zverev chases his first Grand Slam title in Wimbledon. Now it is clear who he will start first and who are other possible opponents.

On the hoped-for path to the first Grand Slam title, Germany’s best tennis player Alexander Zverev in Wimbledon threatens a quarter-final duel with fear opponent Taylor Fritz. In the draw for the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, the world ranking in third was drawn into the lower half of the Tableau with the Spanish defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. A duel with the French Open Champion would be possible in the semi-finals.

At the start of the lawn classic that begins on Monday, Zverev plays against the world ranking 70. Arthur Rinderknech. Zverev will intervene in the event on the first day of the tournament and will play against the French for the first time.

Against his possible quarter-final opponent Fritz, Zverev had recently received the fifth defeat in series in the final of Stuttgart. Another potential quarter-final opponent is the Russian Daniil Medvedev. However, Zverev never got beyond the round of 16 in Wimbledon. The Italian Jannik Sinner is set in position one in the upper half.

Only three German tennis men and thus as little as in 1983 were at the start of the classic London. All three have opportunities to survive the first round. Daniel Altmaier is dealing with the Canadian Gabriel Diallo. Jan-Lennard Struff competes against the qualifier Filip Misolic from Austria.

Maria threatens early duel with number three in the world

A set opponent at the start has not received a German for women either. Tatjana Maria, surprise winner in Queens, threatens a heavy second-round duel with the world ranking third Jessica Pegula from the USA. Her prelude to the American Katie Katie Elynets seems feasible.

Eva Lys is dealing with Yuan Yue from China, Laura Siegemund with Peyton Stearns from the USA. Qualified Ella Seidel meets Jessica Bouzas Maneiro from Spain at her main field debut in Wimbledon.

As few German starter as last 43 years ago

A total of only seven German tennis professionals take part in Wimbledon and thus as little as in 1982 (6). In the previous year there were eleven Germans in the main field, in the mid-1990s up to 28.

The tournament is endowed with a total of £ 53.5 million (62.7 million euros). The champions are determined in the final on July 12th and 13th. In addition to Alcaraz among the men, the Czech Barbora Krejcikova voted the winner last year.
