17-year-old defender was the first selected in the NHL draft
The New York Islanders surprisingly win the first pick in the draft – and choose the favorite. The German ice hockey talents hope in the next rounds.
With the only 17-year-old Matthew Schaefer, a defender was the first to be selected to the draft of the North American ice hockey league NHL. The New York Islanders opted for the Canadian with the first access when selecting the talent with the first access.
This was followed by the Canadian attacker Michael Misa, who was selected by the San Jose Sharks, and Swedish striker Anton Frondell, who goes to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Sharks and Blackhawks have been the two worst teams in the NHL in recent years and had the number one pick in the so-called draft in previous years.
German talents still hope
On the first evening of the NHL drafts in Los Angeles, the first 32 players were selected, normally each team has a so-called pick. The teams that have not reached the playoffs can begin. The worse a team cut off in the pre -season, the higher the likelihood of being early. The final order is drawn taking into account the probabilities. There are also numerous exchange stores.
German players have not been selected in the first round. However, six more rounds follow at the weekend. Among other things, David Lewandowski, son of the former international Eduard Lewandowski, and the captain of the U20 national team, Carlos Handel, both of whom play in Canada, and Maxim Schäfer from the Eisbären Berlin. No German was selected in the draft last year.
