Successful start: LYS achieved second Wimbledon round
In the previous year, Eva Lys was “overwhelmed” by the atmosphere in Wimbledon. Now the 23 -year -old makes it better – and creates a premiere.
Eva Lys was the first German tennis professional to celebrate a successful start at the classic lawn in Wimbledon. The 23-year-old prevailed in the midday heat of around 30 degrees 6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 2 after a hard fight against Chinese Yuan Yue. Lys reached the second round in Wimbledon for the first time in her career. She now meets the winner of the game between the Czech Linda Noskova and Bernarda Pera from the USA.
From the beginning, Lys and Yuan fought long rallies from the baseline. The first game alone lasted nine minutes. Lys lost three games in a row after a 2-0 lead, but still got the first round after 49 minutes.
Lys leaves match balls unused in the second set
The world rankings 61 also showed in the second sentence. The more powerful game scored significantly more direct points. Lys had reported in advance during the first round out during her Wimbledon premiere in the main field in the main field in the main field in the main field in the main field in the main field in the main field.
And now she was wobbling again. She left two match balls unused and had to go to the third round. After treatment on the left knee, Lys made an optimal start and converted the third match ball after 2:27 hours. Lys had no longer felt the abdominal muscle complaints, which she had given up at the preparation tournament in Bad Homburg.
Zverev starts the tournament
Led by Alexander Zverev, a total of only seven German professionals in Wimbledon are in one – as few as in 43 years. After Lys, four more will get into the tournament on Monday. Zverev meets the Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the third game on the Center Court.
