112. France tour
Philipsen celebrates at the start of the tour – setback for Red Bull
The 112nd tour begins in Lille. The Belgian Philipsen cheered at the start – and secures a special award. The debut of the German hopeful Lipowitz is somewhat bumpy.
Jasper Philipsen kissed his partner and celebrated his tenth stage victory at the start of the 112nd Tour de France. But not only that: The 27-year-old stripped the yellow jersey in Lille and made a special success, because the fast men rarely have the prospect of the most prestigious dress in the cycling world.
“You dream of it,” said the Belgian at Eurosport about wearing the yellow jersey. “The tenth victory is one that I will not forget,” he added. “It was a fight to be there at the front. It was very stressful.”
Light damper for Red Bull
Near the imposing fortress fortress in the Northern French city, Philipsen prevailed after the mostly flat 184.9 kilometers with start and finish in Lille in front of the EritReische Profi Biniam Girmay and Norwegian Sören Welenskjold. The German Sprinter around Pascal Ackermann and Phil Bauhaus went away empty -handed, but the debutant Marius Mayrhofer became ninth.
The Red Bull team around Primoz Roglic and the German debutants Florian Lipowitz surprisingly received a slight setback. Thanks to the wind conditions, the overall victory favorites Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard settled in the leading group around Philipsen a few kilometers before the finish in Lille and left the podium candidates Roglic and the Belgian Remco Evenepoel behind. Roglic rolled over the finish line 39 seconds after the top stars.
Three German debutants in Lille
Right at his debut stage, the German cycling hope Lipowitz had previously experienced a slight moment of shock. The 24-year-old was annoyed in the course of the race over a flat tire. The breakdown was quickly remedied, but the total third of the Dauphiné tour had to catch up for almost 40 seconds without the help of his colleagues before he pushed back to the main field.
The world’s largest major cycling event started in France for the first time in four years. In between followed Grand Départs in Copenhagen, Bilbao and Florence. At around 1.40 p.m. the sharp start for the 184 professionals, including the German debutants Lipowitz, Niklas Märkl and Mayrhofer. Ten German drivers went into the tour adventure overall, the German road bike master Georg Zimmermann drives in black and red and gold dress.
Curious fall at the point of view
The chances of a day victory for the German Sprinter around Pascal Ackermann and Phil Bauhaus looked mau before the opening stage. Shortly after the start, Zimmermann’s team -mate Jonas Rutsch took part in the five -member group, which was obtained a good 105 kilometers before the finish.
The professionals did not protect themselves at high speeds. A strange fall made it clear. The two French professionals Benjamin Thomas and Mattéo Vercher sprinted around a mountain rating point. Shortly after Thomas crossed the line about 79 kilometers before the finish, the 29-year-old crashed and tore down shortly afterwards. But both could continue.
Hectic first tour week is imminent
The two-time time trial world champion Filippo Ganna from Italy had to leave the tour early on due to the sequences of falls. The Swiss Stefan Bissegger also had to end the tour. The first week should be very hectic anyway. Since there are mostly flat terrain on the first ten stages, many mass information can be expected.
On the second day, the professionals are about to take the longest stage on Sunday. On the 209.1 kilometers between Lauwin-Planque and Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France, the outliers and classic experts have high hopes for the day’s victory. Among them is the Dutch top star Mathieu van der Poel, who won the classics Milan-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix in spring.
