Nico Hülkenberg receives an unusual trophy with the first podium
Nico Hülkenberg fulfilled a dream in Silverstone – and got a Cup from Lego. He had to listen to some sayings from a Formula 1 colleague.
For 15 years and 239 races, Nico Hülkenberg had to wait to be able to climb the podium in Formula 1. In 2010 the only German driver had completed his first race, and he never came in the top three. Until the race in Silverstone on Sunday, in which the 37-year-old finished third.
Nevertheless, after this success he had to be raised by a competitor. Because of all things, the best -placed drivers did not receive silver trophies as usual at the Grand Britain’s Grand Prix, but a Cup from Lego. “I have a question to Nico,” the runner -up Oscar Piatri (McLaren) teased at the press conference after the race. “What is it like if you wait 15 years for a podium and the trophy is out of LEGO?”
Nico Hülkenberg can live well with LEGO Cup
Hülkenberg did not let himself be disturbed: “I like Lego and my daughter can play with it. I don’t complain,” replied the clean pilot. Finally, the trophy reminds him of his greatest Formula 1 success, with which he might not have expected himself. “A little silver and gold would not have been bad,” added Hülkenberg.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the first Formula 1 race, which also took place in Silverstone in 1950, Lego had recreated the trophy. As usual, there was a copy for the drivers in the first three places and for the team of the winner. In Silverstone, McLaren celebrated a double victory with Lando Norris and Oscar Piatri in the first two places.

According to the toy manufacturer, the trophy consisted of 2717 Lego bricks, is 59 centimeters high and weighs more than two kilograms. A team of seven people needed a total of 210 hours to assemble the four trophies.
Oscar Piatri, who already has some trophies in his collection, did not take the opportunity for some loose sayings: “The trophy only consists of Lego, which you can take apart and probably buy somewhere next week,” joked the McLaren driver. However, this is not true – the Lego bricks are firmly glued together.
