The women’s national team still has a lot in Switzerland. The head of the association is happy that there was a lot of self -criticism after the victory against Denmark.

After the early quarter-finals of the German footballers at the European Championship, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf warned of too much enthusiasm. “We shouldn’t be euphoric now. We all see that there is still potential,” said the 64-year-old top official at an event of the German Football Association in Zurich.

Neuendorf continued: “The teams we’ll play against are really difficult. We have to see an increase.” Due to the 2-1 win against Denmark in Basel, the team of national coach Christian Wück continues before the preliminary round against Sweden.

Between the two teams on Saturday (9:00 p.m./ZDF and DAZ) in Zurich, the group victory. In the first KO round, German women play against a team from Group D with France, defending champion England, the Netherlands and Wales.

After the Denmark game, Neuendorf found it commendable that “the coaching team and the players were very self-critical and did not try to present the things that were not successful in the first half.”

The DFB boss also referred to the spirit and the sense of community at the eight-time title winner, especially after the injury-related tournament from captain Giulia Gwinn: “Cohesion is already a strong currency at a tournament.”
