Carlo Ancelotti sentenced to one year in prison for tax fraud
Due to non-declared income, coaching legend Carlo Ancelotti threatened a long prison sentence in Spain. Now the Italian gets away with a blue eye.
Brazil’s national soccer coach Carlo Ancelotti has been sentenced to a one-year prison sentence in Spain for tax evasion. The district court in Madrid also made a fine of 386,361.93 euros against the Italian, as the judiciary announced in the Spanish capital. The judgment is not yet final, but appeal can be made.
Meanwhile, the 66-year-old does not come behind grid. Prison sentences of up to two years are usually exposed to probation in Spain. The public prosecutor had requested a prison sentence of four years and nine months as well as a penalty payment of more than three million euros.
She accused the former coach of Real Madrid to not have paid a total of around 1.06 million euros to the tax authorities during his first term in the Spanish record champions (2013 to 2015). It was about income from image rights in 2014 and 2015. Ancelotti was guilty for 2014. He was acquitted of the allegation of tax evasion in the 2015 tax year.

Carlo Ancelotti asserted his innocence in court
At the hearing in Madrid in early April, Ancelotti had asserted in court that he had never intended to defraud the state. He had rely on the recommendations of his club and his consultants. He fully paid the tax claims in December 2021.
Between July 2016 and September 2017, Ancelotti was under contract with Bayern Munich. He was also a coach of SSC Naples, from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea FC. After his second term at Real Madrid, he should lead Brazil to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
