Football European Championship: “Incredible bitter”: DFB-Elf struggled after a historical 1: 4

After the highest defeat in German EM history, the frustration sits deep among the German footballers. “We are clearly in this game and wanted to be the first in the group. And that’s why we are now a bit on the ground,” said national coach Christian Wück after the disappointing 1: 4 in Zurich against Sweden. “We give the game in 10 to 15 minutes, that’s incredibly bitter,” said national striker Klara Bühl.

“It is of course sobering. So you wouldn’t like to have such a day in the course of a European championship,” said the playmaker Laura Freiang, who was in the starting eleven in the starting eleven for the first time. “But I prefer it today than on any other day, because now there are KO games.”

First threatens France, then Spain

Instead of the supposedly lighter tournament path as the first group, France now threatens Spain in a possible semi -finals in the district and world champion Spain – the strongest teams in this European championship so far. “We will shake ourselves and will then be joyful and with full courage to go to this quarter -finals. No matter who – whether these are the French or the English or the Netherlands,” announced Wück after the failed preliminary round.

After all, the break until the first ko game is now longer for the DFB team: the team in Basel only competes on Saturday. The semi -finals on July 23 would take place in Zurich. “We have seven days to prepare. We will use them,” promised the Frankfurt freely.

Red card as a sticking point

As a sticking point, the Germans looked at the dismissal against right -back Carlotta Wamser. “The red card was crucial that we couldn’t get back,” analyzed Wück. However, the defense with the two goals in front of Wamser was also bad.

The eight -time title winner had taken the lead early by Jule Brand and convinced with a strong initial phase. “I was really in the mood for the game and after the first ten minutes the feeling that things were going as we had hoped for,” said Freiang. In the end, however, it was “a team -used day”.

“I thought it would be a great game. We are in it,” said scorer Brand, for whom it was the second tournament goal. With a view to the further challenges, the wing flasher found: “There are no weaker teams.” She couldn’t report anything about the mood in the cabin – she had a doping control.
